How Southwest Inflight Entertainment Works
Instead of bulky monitors attached to the back of every headrest, Southwest embraces a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) model. This means you can stream content directly to your own smartphone, tablet, or laptop!
What Can You Watch?
Once you connect to the onboard wireless network, you gain free access to a wide variety of entertainment options right through your browser:
- Live TV: Enjoy a selection of free live television channels featuring news, sports, and popular cable networks to keep you updated during your journey.
- On-Demand Movies: Choose from a rotating library of free movies to pass the time seamlessly.
- Free Messaging: Stay in touch with friends and family using iMessage and WhatsApp without paying a dime.
The Inflight WiFi Experience
Beyond entertainment, Southwest provides affordable high-speed internet access for passengers who need to browse the web, check emails, or catch up on work. Combined with their popular Rapid Rewards program, where you can earn points on flights and redeem them for onboard perks, traveling becomes even more rewarding.
Tips for Enjoying Southwest TV Entertainment
To make the most of your streaming experience:
- Charge your devices fully before heading to the airport.
- Bring your favorite headphones or earbuds for personal audio.
- Download the necessary apps or check your device settings ahead of time.
So, the next time someone asks does Southwest have TV entertainment, you can confidently tell them to pack their devices, connect to the portal, and enjoy the show!
Maximizing Your Comfort and Productivity
Streaming your favorite shows or catching live sports is just one piece of the puzzle when flying with Southwest. Because the airline relies on personal devices, planning ahead ensures a smooth, uninterrupted viewing experience from takeoff to landing.
Power Up Before Boarding
While some aircraft in Southwest’s fleet are equipped with USB power ports or AC outlets, availability can vary depending on the specific plane you board. To avoid running out of battery right during the climax of a movie:
- Pack a reliable portable power bank in your personal item.
- Charge all your devices to 100% before leaving home or at the terminal gate.
- Lower your screen brightness to conserve battery while streaming.
Connecting to the Portal: A Quick Step-by-Step
Getting online to access the entertainment portal takes just a few moments. Once the aircraft reaches cruising altitude and the Wi-Fi symbol appears on your device:
- Enable Wi-Fi on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop and select the SouthwestWiFi network.
- Open your web browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge, etc.). If you aren’t automatically redirected, type in SouthwestWiFi.com.
- Navigate to the entertainment section, select your live TV channel or movie, and enjoy!

Southwest’s modern approach to inflight entertainment puts control directly into the hands of the passenger.
